The history of the screwdriver ?

The invention of the screwdriver coincided with the creation of screws, which first appeared in Europe in 1550 AD as metal nuts and bolt fasteners. When the true purpose of a screwdriver became apparent in London in 1780, carpenters discovered that by using a screwdriver instead of a hammer, more objects could be fixed. The terms "screwdriver" are known as tournevis (a screw turner) and Schraubenzieher (a screw tightener) in France and Germany, respectively.

The first patent for a screw head was granted to Henry F. Phillips of Oregon. The screw head, a cross slotted screw head, is today known as a Phillips screw. It was successfully utilized in 1936 to test-build Cadillac cars and supplied dependable fasteners for American automobile manufacturing as well as other industrial output. For this reason, Phillips screws are either referred to as just Phillips screws or Phillips screws with specific designations as P1, P2, and so forth.
